Fellowships CAARI offers an active fellowship program. Fellowship opportunities include two CAARI-sponsored fellowships as well as several fellowships sponsored by others, such as Fulbright research fellowships, CAORC multi-country fellowships and Kress Foundation fellowships. The CAARI Director provides guidance to fellows on matters related to their research, on facilities available at CAARI and in Cyprus, and facilitates contacts with relevant local authorities and scholars. In addition to their research work, fellows are asked to give a lecture on their work, participate in roundtable discussions, and are featured speakers at CAARI symposia. THE HELENA WYLDE SWINY AND STUART SWINY FELLOWSHIP: One grant of $1000 to a graduate student of any nationality in a U.S. college or university to pursue a research project relevant to an ongoing field project in Cyprus; to be used to fund research time in residence at CAARI and to help defray costs of travel. Residence at CAARI is required.
CAARI THE DANIELLE PARKS MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP Danielle Parks, author of The Roman Coinage of Cyprus (Nicosia, 2004), directed excavations at the Amathus Gate Cemetery and for a time was assistant to the Director of CAARI. She first came to Cyprus as an Anita Cecil O'Donovan Fellow. Her death as a young scholar in 2006, deeply felt by the wide circle of her colleagues and friends, is memorialized here by a fellowship designed to open the world of Cypriot culture to young scholars. A fellowship of US$2,000 will be awarded annually by the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute (CAARI) on a competitive basis to a graduate student of any nationality who needs to work in Cyprus to further his/her research on a subject of relevance to Cypriot archaeology and culture. The purpose of the fellowship is to help cover travel to and living expenses in Cyprus. Applications in 2008 are invited especially from students of antique Cyprus. While in Nicosia, Cyprus, the fellow will reside at CAARI. During his/her stay, the fellow is expected to give a presentation at CAARI on a subject related to his/her research. The fellow will periodically keep the Director of CAARI apprised of his/her research activities. The fellow will acknowledge CAARI and the Danielle Parks Memorial Fellowship in any publication that emerges from the research carried during the fellowship. The Council of American Overseas Research Centers announces a fellowship program for Citizens of Cyprus that supports advanced regional research: 2008 GETTY RESEARCH EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN BASIN AND MIDDLE EAST The Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers announce a new fellowship program open to scholars who are citizens of Cyprus and who have already obtained a Ph.D. or have professional experience in the study or preservation of cultural heritage and who wish to undertake a specific research project at an overseas research centers in another country. Funded by the Getty Foundation, the fellowships require scholars to affiliate with one of the following overseas research centers: American Academy in Rome; American Center of Oriental Research (Amman); American Institute for Maghreb Studies (Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria); American Institute for Yemeni Studies (Sana'a); American Research Center in Egypt (Cairo); American Research Institute in Turkey (Istanbul and Ankara); American School of Classical Studies at Athens; and the W.F Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (Jerusalem). FELLOWSHIPS IN ART HISTORY AT FOREIGN INSTITUTIONS: Four $22,500-per-year Kress Institutional Fellowships in the History of European Art for a two-year research appointment in association with one of a list of foreign institutes, among them CAARI. Restrictions: Restricted to pre-doctoral candidates in the history of art. Nominees must be U.S. citizens or individuals matriculated at an American university. Dissertation research must focus on European art before 1900. Candidates must be nominated by their art history department.
